This picture is to commemorate all known and unknown heroes of the ill-fated, still glorious revolution and fight for freedom fought by the oppressed people of Soviet-occupied Hungary in 1956, from 23rd October to mid-November, when the invading Soviet military quenched all resistance in Budapest and the country's important cities. With the restoration of Communist rule, grim retributions followed including the execution of several hundred and imprisonment of some 25 000 citizens.

May all victims rest in peace - their efforts were not in vain.

The photo resembles the red, white and green coloured Hungarian banner, composed of various autum leaves and rose petals. The hole in the center appeared when the freedom fighters cut out of it the hated round-shaped Communist-styled crest. Since then the "hollow flag" has become the acknowledged symbol of the revolution.
